Hello! I’m Mrs. Joanne Soward, and I am delighted to share my love of creativity with our young artists. I earned degrees in History and Art History from the University of St. Thomas, and I have a special passion for ceramics and all things art. My goal as an art teacher is to create a welcoming studio where every child feels valued, capable, and inspired. I believe art gives children a powerful way to express themselves, build confidence, solve problems, and discover new possibilities. Through engaging experiences in drawing, painting, ceramics, weaving, photography, art history, and digital media, I hope to nurture each student’s growth and encourage a lifelong love of art that will continue to enrich their life. I am proud to serve my community as a board member of the Aransas County Historical Society and Friends of the History Center. I am also a member of the Rockport Center for the Arts. History remains an important part of my life, and I enjoy traveling to my family’s homestead areas in Lavaca and Fayette Counties to research my Swedish and Czech ancestors. My greatest joys are my husband, David Soward; our children, Emily and her husband Matt and Alex and his girlfriend, Avery; and our much-loved dog, Buddy.
